A buddy of mine is looking for a place to stay. I said no.
Two years ago, he got his car towed from the apartment complex where he was staying because he’d not kept his stickers up to date. I withdrew the cash and drove him to the import lot so he could have his car back.
In exchange, I asked him for two drawings and an invoice that said as much. I figured I’d get me two drawings for a project I was working on, he’d have a record of being paid for his work, and he’d have his car back.
About a month later, the car died. He did not bother to get it fixed and pretty much gave it to the mechanic.
A few months after that, he had to flee the apartment, as he was being evicted. I remember the apartment he was leaving was a disaster area. I let him store his stuff in my garage. It was there for several months.
During time, he stayed with some friends of mine. I’m told he made an ungodly mess, introduced bed-bugs to the house, and ate everything in sight.
Some time later, he stayed with another friend of mine. Again, there was the bed-bug issue (which is why he’d been asked to leave the first place). Not sure about messes.
A couple months ago, he called asking for help fleeing an apartment, again. Once again, the apartment was an absolute shambles. We took the stuff to ANOTHER friend’s house, and I have no idea where they put it.
By this point, the buddy-in-question was looking at checking into a respite center. But he had to wait for an opening. I was starting my new job, so I was not available to drive out to the middle of nowhere to pick him up. Seriously, if you have no car, try to live closer to public transportation, please?
He called a few times from the respite center, to see if I could come and get him and drive him around, but the work schedule didn’t allow for that.
Then, he says he’s getting out for the anime convention, but he’ll he’ll need a place to stay for “a couple weeks or so” after that. I let him know my place was not the place to stay.
At the convention, as we were leaving, he followed us out, thinking he could just crash at my place for a couple hours. I explained that was not happening, as the moment I got home, I had to go to bed, so I could get ready for a twelve-hour-shift that night.
Last night, as I was getting ready to leave for work, he contacted me again, asking if he could stay with me in July, as the person he was staying with had given him until the end of the month.
Again, I said no.
“No room?“ he asked.
Now, it is not unknown that I recently got rid of a roommate. I got rid of him because he made a mess and had a shitty attitude. It had nothing to do with money (the ex-roomie was very good about paying his rent and I miss the income but not the bullshit).
So at this point, I’m just mad. He’s trying to guilt me into letting him stay? No. Not just no but fuck no. Like, don’t ask me again and if you do I will block you so many ways you won’t know what happened. If I got rid of a guy who could pay rent, then why the HELL would I have someone in my house who can’t?
And you know what? I still don't have those two drawings from two years ago. Which is a shame, because if I had them, I could suggest him for other work with folks I know.
OH WELL.
