Last Sunday, after checking out the hotel, I posted this:
Here's how much it will cost you to self-park in the Anatole parking lot. I imagine valet is more. #AKon24 twitpic.com/ctidzh
— Lolotehe (@lolotehe) May 27, 2013
It didn't get a lot of retweets, but the picture made the rounds on Tumblr.
Later, another group put together a parking map and I tweeted that.
Now, I know this looks kinda weird, but really, a lot of this DOES happen on Twitter. The hash-tags collect the information and it's a quick and easy way to get info out. It's not a LOT of info, but a link to a map or a menu? Yeah, it's good for that.
And Twitter is how I found out what was going on with the lines at the convention.
Some chick is trying to get on-site to do the wave. I've been standing for an hour and I'm kinda in a bad mood. So, no. #akon24

And it's stuff like this that earned A-Kon the nickname "Q-Kon".
Always riding the line ride... #Akon24

Lines to the dealers room is fail. #AKon24
— Matthew Trent (@ofaniteofdoubt) June 1, 2013
Because, you see, the same hallway served the lines to the dealers' room, artists' alley, and registration. As a matter of fact, registration was at the FAR END BACK of artists' alley. Problems continued the next day.
The fustercluck is outside the #AKon24 #dealersroom has worsened to the point of not allowing our own Dealer-badge-wearing staff back in.
— Joe Rosales (@joetweetguy) June 1, 2013
It got so bad, A-Kon had to address the issue directly.
Regarding rumors at #AKon24: The dealers room closing: Simply, we were over capacity and were ordered shut (cont) tl.gd/n_1rkjtl2
— A-Kon (@AKon_Convention) June 2, 2013
But, the problems continued.
Was going to hit Artist Alley and the Dealer's Room, but now there are lines for that. Fuck this. So long, #Akon24
— J.A. Peters (@Haiir0) June 2, 2013
And some tried to defend the con.
So much negativity about #Akon24. The lines WERE horrendous but it's the first year at a new hotel. They will work out the kinks next year.
— Peach (@popsiclesaber) June 1, 2013
While others would not excuse it all.
The cons of #akon24: staff was rude, the lines were long, they shut things down early, unorganized, hotel staff hated us, food tickets
— MAD Fai(=゚ω゚)ノ☆ (@FuriousTsundere) June 2, 2013
This stupid! Volunteers are rude, their I'dno food trucks and they can't organize . Never go to@akon_convention ! #akon24
— TXTrekkie_Gurl (@TXTrekkie_Gurl) June 2, 2013
We'll see how next year goes.
it sounds like #Akon24 had some issues this year. hope #Akon25 is more organized and better.
