I told you a little about last weekend, when I went to check out the hotel. While I was there, I ran into Jamil and Ashley. Jamil's on the security staff and Ashley's the head of info-desk.
We chit-chatted about room parties and throngs of kids and all that and Ashley said the hotel would be banning all outside food and drink. "If you have a cooler, they will make you leave. It's the hotel's rule. The con doesn't care." I thought this was pretty wild and asked him if he was sure, but he said yes.
That was Sunday.
On Monday night, after looking for any information on this, I decided to just ask the Kon.
@akon_convention I hear all outside food and drink is banned. Ordered pizzas will be turned away? Not finding anything on the site. #AKon24

But got no reply. This was a serious thing and I wanted to know!
I asked again, later that day while the A-Kon convention twitter account was active.
@akon_convention What's the rumor on all outside food and drink being banned? Ordered pizzas will be turned away? No info on site.

And that time, they did reply.
.@lolotehe We're checking on the food questions for #AKon24, but here's a general rule: DO NOT trust the rumor mill.

Now, look at the language here. A-Kon did not say "yes" or "no", but "We're checking on it." Also, I should have said "your info-desk guy said..." because A-Kon was quick to find the word "rumor" and run with it.
This is worrisome. It's three days before the biggest convention in Dallas in a new hotel and they aren't 100% sure on a what could be a major issue?
THE NEXT DAY, A-Kon finally had an answer.
Food at #AKon24: Food deliveries will NOT be turned away by the hotel. But we do encourage you to try the (cont) tl.gd/n_1rki3b1
— A-Kon (@AKon_Convention) May 29, 2013
And that tells me there was some last minute negotiation with the hotel. Seriously, it does not take that long to find out if outside food is banned or not.
@akon_convention Very cool! Make sure your info-desk guy knows!::;:-P

Because let's lay this at the feet of from whom it started. Man, just don't give me information and not expect me to question it. Don't tell me something awful is going to happen and not expect me to try to warn folk. I admit it; I'm a troll.
Oh, interestingly enough, one guy favored all my tweets on this subject. I don't understand people.
