A strange Dana in a strange world

Dana woke up in a strange room with a familiar face.
Tomoka pulled back, clutching the wet cloth tightly. “You are sick,” he said. “Looks like it got your eyes pretty bad.” He leaned forward again, holding out the cool cloth. “If you'll just—“
Dana brushed his hand away. “No. That's their color. They're fine.”
“They said you were sick when they brought you on,” he said. “I just thought that was a side effect. That's what color they are?”
She nodded and tried to get her bearings. This was a small room, but not the same architecture as on the station. The door was more rounded, so she assumed she was on a ship.
“Anyway,” Tomoka said. “We're on our way to Cygnus-16. There's someone we're supposed to pick up out there. I hope you're feeling better.” He stood to leave.
Dana tried to get out of the bed but her head spun. As she clutched the edge of a near-by desk, she asked, “What ship is this? Where are we?”
He stopped to help her back to the bed. “We're on the corvette RenSheng, but the women told me the ship's new name was Chichitiizi . I'm guessing it's Thai or—“
“A-round-about-way-that-prevents-problems,” Dana muttered. “No, it's not Thai. It's Vencume.” She sat in the bed and brushed back her now-wild hair with her fingers. “You said women. Do they all have black hair?”
He nodded. “That's why I thought they were Thai. But, the children—“
“Children?” Dana stiffened. “What children?”
He waved his hand around. “There's all these kids, all over the place. I think this is a refugee ship. They said they were prisoners of the Shipping Authority. They said you were. I know I was. We're escaping.”
“How many?” she asked.
He shrugged. “At least twenty, that I saw. Here. Hold on.” He left the room.
Dana sat very still in the room and ran her fingers through her hair. This must be a dream, she thought. How can he sit there and not know who I am? She stopped short, then clutched at the hair in her fingers. Of course! My hair is longer! I don't have my contacts in! I'm not in my uniform! Tomoka has prosopagnosia; there's no way he can recognize me!
